I know it's not the best answer but it gives the poor mouse a fighting chance which they don't get in a spring trap.
I have one indoors at the moment - caught the cheeky little devil pinching the cat's biscuits so I must get the trap out

Dont use glue traps they are the most in humane thing I can think of.

Is it just one mouse?
best to get a 'pro' in, a reputable pest controller can remove the problem quickly and humanely.
If you are determined to do-it-yourself stick with the traps (if its only one mouse) and lay them along edges of rooms where the mouse patrols.
Make sure any other food sources are removed.
