wireless mouse batteries

Is there any reason why the batteries of my wireless mouse should not be removed when my PC is switched off, please?  When left on all the time the mouse seems to gobble up batteries fast,

like ...... cheese crumbs!

There's no reason I can think of. Definately take them out, since when not in use the mouse still sits in a hibernation state which still uses up batteries.

mikeyp:  exactly what I thought.  Even when the PC is off its red pulse/glow underneath can still be seen!  The computer installer expressed horror that I was doing it (I started off thinking it wouldn't hurt...) but didn't give an explanantion.  It's something I have been meaning to query with HP Help but I haven't got round to it.  Mouse and keyboard info. inside my package was very scant.

I have an HP Pavilion system with cordless mouse & every time I switch off my PC, I lift one of the batteries out to save the power being drained from them. It only takes a second to remove & replace them & they do last longer.

smudge:  I too have an HP - a media centre.  Aha, I have just seen the battery compartment on the wireless keyboard so that can be disarmed when I go off-line for any length of time.  Must save a lot over a year. TVM.

Hi again flaming - I must confess, I never take out the keyboard batteries as they don't have a light staying on.

The batteries certainly do last longer when I remove them from the mouse though.

I'm always replacing my mouse's batteries. I never thought of removing them.

I've done that from day one orgamistar! The reason being, was that I switched off the lights in the room & noticed that the mouse was still 'glowing'. I realised that only the batteries could allow this to happen, so I popped them out - hence the longer lasting batteries!

I have a wireless mouse (microsoft) and never remove the batteries. I have had to replace them only once a year when the arrow gets a bit 'laggy'. I did try some batteries from Ikea but they only lasted a few weeks.  I generally use branded batteries and they last very well. Regards.
