Backstage passes are strictly controlled, and usually issued at the beginning of a tour as laminates for people with a strict need to be in that area - which means band a crew. Press, guests and family visiting usually get a VIP pass which gives you access after the show, but again, you have to have a valid reason to get one.
I am a freelance writer, and occasionaly I;ve been isued with laminates, but I know my veracity has been checked in advance before the pass was handed over - you can't simply ring up and say you work for 'so-and-so' - they can, and they do check!
