I think the government feels it has it's hands tied. There are many countries who have service, and ex service, people in our forces. If they allow Ghurkas to live here permanently then they must all be allowed.

But the government probably did the sums and said they couldn't do it - heroes or not.

Most people believe the Ghurkas should settle here if they wish. And I bet a lot of MPs secretly do as well.

So they did the sums and decided that war heroes could not settle in this country. Yet they refuse to close the gates to every benefit seeking, work shy immigrant that has figured out that our benefit system will give them a free ride.
