Not so sure on the cheese front now .
The Anglo saxon words for mould appear to be FYNIG or MOLS...neither of which sound remotely like cheese.
Somebody has suggested Dorset Blue Vinney, another kind of cheese, which *might* possibly be an answer. See:

Wouldn't have thought that Dorset Blue Vinney qualifies as a 'common food'. though, unless you live in Dorset.
