My laptop seems screen goes blank when I move the laptop, and I can only get it back by forcing a shutdown via the on off switch. Could there be a bad connection somewhere?

I would suggest there may be a problem to do with connections of cables in your laptop.
The wires for the lcd screen are very thin.....could break easily.
I have changed a number of laptop screens and it is a fiddley job (lots of screws and small wires).
If you are having your problems when you move the machine, i doubt very much it will have anything to do with your OS or any software.
Going back to a last known good config wont help.
