I haven't got the crossword, but I should think 24ac is CURVET. Cur=dog, vet=check, a curvet is a light leap of a horse in dressage.

I'm sure 32ac would be DISARRAY. An arras is a hanging or tapestry, backwards in D-I-Y, which is work around the house

I found it significantly harder, too - even cheating was more difficult until I realised you were asking about 35 across, not 32!
