Just after paying �700 for my driveway to be tarmacked about 4 weeks ago or maybe 3 weeks. Bringing bin out for tomorrow and noticed a broken albeit small bit of tarmac and a weed starting to grow. I phoned the guy and of course he said he would look at it on Friday. He was supposed to come back before to put a grate over and never did. No receipt exchanged hands - and no he was not a traveller - very legit. I actually got him about 4 years to flag my back yard and not one weed came through - this is why I got him. What will I do if he does not come back or can I treat this myself. He said on the phone "oh these weeds do come through quick" - but I said did not think they would come that quick

If you paid him by cheque then you will have a receipt on your bank statement. I hope you did not pay him cash. Send him a letter and get your complaint in writing, state when the work was done and when the damage was noticed.

All you need to do is mix up some sodium chlorate (from B&Q) with water in watering can & pour it on the area. That makes ground nasty for weed roots.

if you get no joy soon tell this cowboy you will report him to trading standards.....or even go to the local paper tradesmen hate a bad press...bad press=bad publicity=less work...ultimatley less money....go on try it.....

But did he prepare the path properly or just lay the tarmac over the previous surface?

for dot hawkes - no I was there he took the old tarmac away on the Friday and put the new one on Saturday. my builder/ neighbour said that these things happen and that it can be quicker in coming up.
