paedophiles and the threat
33 Answers
ok so I am soon to be a father and got into the subject of paedofiles and protecting your children. i personally feel that if you drink too much (without causing a crime) you can go get help. if you are mentally ill (which pedos are) you can go get help. you can seek help pretty much for anything apart from having paedofile thoughts. this must be to be due to how much the general public hates and acts on people like this.
does this mean that if paedofiles could say visit a pedos anonymous and get some treatment (if any) then this would reduce the problem? and may even reduce the deaths of some children?
i personally have no time or compassion for anyone that has committed an offence but would be willing for some of my tax money go into a fund to helping people who are at the stage of contemplating paedophilia. what do you think?

I think Scandavia amongst other countries has had a programme were sex offenders can agree to be castrated and then allowed to go back and live in society.
I still don't agree with it - thinking objects, hands and mouths

the thing about help is that one has to admit they have a problem and want help. The vast majority of paedophiles never admit their problem and dont want help. unlike mental illness there is no medication and they can not be detained involuntary as most are highly intelligent which is why they get away with it for so long. Help never works unless you want it to

Please define for me the "help" you believe is available for paedophiles?
Why would you want to "help" those who have perpetrated the most heinous of crimes imaginable?
Why do they deserve "help"? What's the point? It is far too late once innocent children have been defiled and had their trust in humanity shattered because of the actions of these debased deviants.
Should not the guilty be punished and the innocent "helped"?

First off Beatty, clitoral removal is female circumcision not castration - its not the same thing as male castration. Secondly, you seem to be worrying about this as you are about to become a parent, don't get too hung up on the whole stranger danger thing. Children are more likely to be abused by someone they know such as a family friend but they are also much more likely not to be abused at all. My ex is obssessed by the fact that some stranger is going to abduct our daughter and as a result she has no freedom when she is with him. At 13 she has no friends where he stays and spends all her weekends with him, his partner and family friends(who are more likely to do something if they're that way inclined). Keep your child safe, but remember - there aren't necessarily more cases of child abuse now than when you were young, but they are more likely to be reported to the police and then widely reported in the press. Let your child be a child and enjoy life. Good luck to you
well parrifin i work with children who have abused and parents who are abusers. In some instances the abusers were victims themselves and never received help. I ma not saying thats an excuse but you cant jugde them all in the same way. Sure it is a henious crime and i see the effects each and every day, but these paedophiles are also people and let those without sin......
They are also fathers and inspite of their crimes their children have feelings for them. Who gives any of us the right to take another life???
As for the help there are a number of programmes and practitioners who can offer treatment, particularly those in forensic psychology. There are a number of programmes in prison and ?In the UK there are a number of specialised units for adolescents sex offenders

"let those without sin..."
I sincerely hope I'm not being compared to a paedophile???
Of course we have all "sinned", we would not be human otherwise, would we? But does that mean that all "sinners" are one and the same? That their sins are indivisible?
Sorry, pink, but you failed totally to address my points, because, stating lamely that: "the abusers were victims themselves" and "there are programmes" blah, blah, blah, simply does not wash.
The inference that these unspeakables committed their crimes because they too were defiled as children is a complete load of hogwash. Nothing can excuse the conscious decision made by these scumbags to abuse and rape innocent children. They're not driven to it by by haunted childhoods themselves, they do it because they are physically, sexually aroused by the thought of having deviant sex with a helpless victim.
"there are programmes" Like what? That's a mere euphemism for people sitting chatting to them, telling them they've done wrong and not to do it again. Nothing more, nothing less. It is no guarantee against them re-offending, is it?
Why do you think that the absurdly low number of imprisoned paedophiles are kept apart from the other prisoners? Why are they rightly reviled by all decent people in society? Because they prey on the vulnerable, the helpless, those most defenceless.
This country needs the deterrent of enforced castration (for it's overwhelmingly male offenders) in order to at least have some semblance of justice for the most horrific type of crime imaginable. We've put up with lily livered apologists for far too long.
Sorry if you take exception to any of my views but they are made honestly and sincerely in the interests of victims.

well parrafin a lot of victims where its familial abuse want their perpetrator to get help. The programmes are baaed on risk assessments and a lot of cognitive and behavioual techniques, It also looks at and measures victim offending behaviour. The aim of the treatment programme is to teach self-control mechanisms to change attitudes and behaviour and stop further offending.

the reasons people offend are varied and i am not excusing it in any way however i have worked with children who have been sexually abused and couldnt deal with it and went on to offend. Not that that makes it ok . There are so many reasons and they vary from case to case it is a life sentence for all involved
This is an offence in civilised western culture but not considered such in many other countries. In UK we live an indoor lifestyle with TV/PCs/Video/Techie stuff for indoor entertainment & pervy/sexual/blue mags available. All brought into homes which will corrupt minds. Sex is a joke, even a box of tissues has sexual connatations.
To have a paedo in your family you would be chastised by your community. These people do belong to families. We need to watch out for our own to prevent this......there is the remedy.

Thank you for your most comprehensive answer. However, I've heard it all before.
It amounts, in a nutshell, to no more than well meaning people having cosy chats with offenders who ultimately are released back into the community. And who is there then to stop them re-offending?
And, while every man and his dog is seeing to the "needs" of the paedophile, how much is done for victims in comparison?
Precious little.
It's a two tier system weighed heavily in favour of the wrongdoer. Many thousands of pounds is lavished on offenders, thousands of hours are spent by people chatting to them, "assessing" them, chatting to colleagues about them, having little meetings to "decide the best way forward", all at taxpayers' expense. And how many of those same "experts" ever spend time with victims?
Forgive my cynicism, but how can "Relapse Prevention", i.e. 12 more sessions of chatting to the offender, stop him from re-offending? The short answer is: it can't. It can offer no guarantees that this deviant will not go on to commit further atrocities on release, can it? It's a flawed system.
Despite my views, I have never condoned these "vigilante" attacks on known paedophiles, although I can fully understand the feelings of victims' families. But we wouldn't have any such "vigilantes" if we had failproof measures in place, which we sadly haven't.

I totally agree, i say this all the time. Don't get me wrong, i'm not saying we need compasion for paedofiles, but surely by just putting them in prison for a few months, sometimes years, it isn't stopping them having these thoughts. None of us can help what turns us on, and although i do think it's sick that for some people, it's children, i do believe they cannot help these thoughts, only whether or not they act on it, and we only have to look at the world we live in and the divorce rate to see that sexual desire takes over most people at some point, whether right or wrong! I would 100% back any idea of some sort of help for these people so that this kind of thing can stop happening, rather than just being delayed while they are in prison!
