Is anyone else absolutely amazed that there are smokers who are so selfish that they gas their own children in a car? Should it be necessary to legislate in this area, surely smokers should not be so selfish. I know they ain't the sharpest knives in the box but please!

Any smokers here who will own up to doing this and perhaps explain their reasoning?

I used to smoke around my children when they were babies 30 odd years ago and like others have said there just wasn't the same attitude toward it!

I gave up smoking 23 years ago mainly because I didn't want my sons to smoke, when they were in their teens they both smoked but by their mid twenties had both stopped!

Both my parents smoked (although my brother never has) and my 77 year old mum still does (far from being the bluntest knife in the box she's a retired chartered accountant who was a parner in an established Edinburgh company). My dad however died of cancer when he was 50!

Surely Geezer....the answer to the whole 'problem' is......make smoking illegal..........

I too think the ban is ridiculous as it will lead to homes etc too. I suppose the main point here is, why to smokers think so little of their own kids that they'll gas them like this. If I walked into a house and started spraying cyanide about they'd have a fit but they do it themselves every day.
Geezer.....looking at what some parents do to their kids the passive smoking is the least of their worries......
I grew up in an era when nearly everybody smoked and we rarely thought about the health aspects. I well remember people smoking in cars when their children were present and no one thinking any the worse of them. However, with all the health evidence against smoking today and its undesirability socially, I don't understand why we don't just ban it altogether. I suppose its something to do with tax revenues, which seems a sad state of affairs really.
It's a common occurrence in Croydon, parents from New Addington, blowing smoke over their babies and children. They are just plain backward scum.
how would they stop people from doing it - look how many people are still driving while talking on mobile phones. People happily manoevering there cars with one hand with their children in the back - often not strapped in!
Hello R1Geezer. It never ceases to amaze me that the addiction of smoking can drive people to be very desperate in their behavior.
Examples :
Patients standing outside of a hospital entrance with a gas tank strapped to their back because they need the oxygen to breathe. Others in wheel chairs or on crutches etc etc. People who do not smoke have to walk through the horrible smoke to get in to the hospital. Smoking outside at a restaurant when other people are still eating. Just how ignorant can these smokers be. This should not be allowed to happen by law also.
Smoking while having sex, whats that all about? A friend of mine and his missus smoke while on the job. How romantic darling ha ha.
Pregnant women smoking 20 to 40 fags a day.
My mother smoked all her short life and died age 46 of cancer. The cancer was everywhere and I had to watch the disease quite literally eat away at her. Smoking is a filthy, disgusting habit that should be banned in public.
It is very difficult for people to quit and I do empathise for those that try. Keep trying or you can be guaranteed a short life with a disgusting, painfull death with no dignity.
