Family Names
4 Answers
A man in our family who passed away 20 years ago had the surname Dordoyne. As he only had daughters we believe there is nobody now alive with that surname.
We do not know about the origins of the name and we only know all the known family lived in England, Wales and Germany.
Is there any easy inexpensive way we can find out if there is anybody alive with that name in the world.
Many thanks
Brian

the only Dordoyne (with a 'y' not a 'g' I can find in the IGI is for a baptism in Reinnland in 1802 there are no other instances of that spelling, which is amazing. On ancestry.co.uk I've found a USA reference to a Melissa Dordoyne in a US tax record. every search on google tries to change the spelling back to Dordogne

Hi Dot - so who is the one on the list i found? Can't be the same guy that Brian is refering to as this list os from 2007 and his guy died 20 years ago. Could it just be a misspell? tbh I think that happens all the time - I am not sure that my surname is actually spelled right as it is a McK....... name and my oh is not sure whether it should be a capital K or not!! Maybe somebody just misspelled the Dordogne suname once and just stuck to it.
