how do I tell if my poplar trees are diseased, there are a few dead branches and I wonder if its anything to do with pest's or the dreaded squrrels

Are there notches chewed out of someof the leaves? you may have vine weevil......can buy a good treatment - provado vine weevil killer. The grubs look like dark headed maggots and eat the roots.....often find them buried in the soil around the roots.
