Chicken Pox
I don't know if I'm being old fashioned but there is a couple of us in our group of mums who feel that the little ones are going to get the chicken pox at some point so theres no point keeping them in hiding, avoiding going out etc etc....
It seems to be the talk in our small community that so and so's child was in contact with a child thats brother had chickent pox so then that child's mum has predicted the day their child should get the pox and is then staying in and not going near other childre.
a friend has now cancelled birthday parties, family occasions, days out because they keep thinking (by their calculations) their little on is going to get it and they've still not had it.
its now all the mum's sit and speak about and calculate when their kid "should" get it!!!
we've tried to say to the mums their going to get it at some point and not to worry. i was never kept in hiding when i had chicken pox
do you worry about the chicken pox in this way?
another person has not seen family members for over a month because they keep thinking their one is going to get it

When there was chicken pox going around baby bailey's nursery, she'd been hospitalised by a stomach bug so I kept her off nursery a little longer than needed, so that she didn't get CP too, but normally I wouldn't have minded, like everyone has said she's going to get it at some point.
Having said that though I did keep her away from her cousin a couple of months back, who probably wasn't infectious any more, on the off chance that if she caught it from him she would be have it on her 1st birthday!! :(
Maybe they're just making excuses not to see familly members - I might start doing that lol!!

Hi numnum
When baby Picky had his original bout of chicken pox, I kept him off nursery as advised by both my doctor and the nursery policy. It's all very well 'Dr' Squad saying if they get it they get it, but some parents don't want their children to catch it if at all possible, hence why I felt it was more responsible to keep my son away from a situation where he could potentially infect others. I personally did not worry about baby Picky getting chicken pox but that that was my own opinion.

i dont think the question here is would you keep your child away from others if your child had CP, of course parents would unless other parents wanted their children to catch it.
Its usually spread around nurserys because they are contagious BEFORE spots start to show as well.
picky, you did right keeping him away from nursery when you know he had the pox or something that could be contagious.
