adoption in the late 1950, early 1960,s

I am looking to find out about children adopted by un married mothers in the lancashire/ chorley/preston area of the uk in the late 50,6 and early 60,s, would anyone know waht happened when a young mother signed her baby for adoption at birth, were they went and how the process of adoption was carried out? I have just found out that I have a brother and sister and want to find them. can anyone help?

murraymint, I live in that area, have you found their birth registrations? if they were adopted it will have given the cross reference in the adoption register.
You could contact the chorley guardian and ask them to do a story on your family, they often do that sort of thing.
