How do I change the belt in a washing machine?

wouldnt attempt it myself, you have to open it up and everything and the belt would cost a bit. The job cost about �70 if u call someone, wouldnt it be better to just buy a new one as the price of electrical goods had fallen over the years. You could get a good new machine for �200, it will probably last you longer than fixing it. We had problem with ours, we called someone to fix it and then another problem occured. End up buying a new one, should had bought it in the first place.

Depends on the model; if the back panel will come off with a lot of small screws, then have a look (sometimes the top has to come off first, but that's usually just two screws on the top back edge and then slide backwards).  Once the back's off, it should be just an ease the belt off the big pulley first and then replace it with new.  Be careful to align any ridges on the belt with grooves on the smaller pulley(pullies).  Check everything turns ok by hand before trying power. I should have said, remove the plug first of all - never trust an off switch if you have to get inside anything electical.  Good luck!

Thanks for your answers guys. We've sorted it!

It was a second hand machine and we only paid about �100 for it, so not worth spending �70 to fix it!

We're just about to re-do our kitchen and will be fitting an integrated one but not until October so we wanted to give it a push. We managed to get the belt around the pulley and it's all back working again!
