When you are fitting a new shock absorber should it fit into the hub with just a bit off force and lubrication?

I just want to be certain before I go back to Euro Car Parts complaining that their part wouldn't fit. I don't want to look like a tit when the guy tells me you need to do x, y, and z before it will fit

Its a Mk5 Ford Fiesta

If you are talking about the rear shock and your have car supported by an axle stand on the sill edge, jack up the hub to align the lower shock absorber eye.
