Do you pay for your prescriptions?

I posted this earlier, but it appears to have disappeared into cyberspace, so .....

Do you pay for your prescriptions, or are you exempt from payment? A lot of folk are exempt, but I'm not, so I have bought a pre-paid yearly card. I pay just over ten quid a month and that covers everything.

A good deal when you consider it's over seven quid for one item!

I am going for a diabetes check next week. The pharmacist did an on-the-spot test while I was picking up my prescription and said I need to see the doc for a full check, as the result was high.

So perhaps I might not have to pay for prescriptions shortly. Mind you, I'd rather not have the diabetes.

swanko in out pharmacy you wouyld not be able to they ask for proof every time

I've never been asked for proof. Even when I received my pre-payment card, I opened my purse to get it out but the pharmacist told me she didn't need to see it.

I'm sure she should have checked it, really, even though she knows me well.

I don't pay for ANY prescriptions,but then as I am over 60 (when it is free) I wouldn't would I.

However,ANYONE over 60 gets free prescriptions regardless.

How people become reliant on prescription drugs is beyond me - they're so expensive.

We are lucky enough to have a Pharmacy in our GP Medical Centre(as it is more than 6 miles from a Chemist).
The (very friendly) Ladies there NEVER check a Prescription.
They let the patient fill in the back,and take what they put as correct..
They say they are not there to interrogate Patients,and if the free claim is fraudulent then the NHS/DWP will pick up on it and prosecute the person.

I always paid up until 3 years ago when I had my thyroid gland removed, now I am on thyroxine permanently which entitles me to free prescriptions. Mr. Den does one of those pre-paid things every month - but he is 60 in August which will entitle him to free prescriptions.

When I used to pay for my prescriptions - I was amazed at how may people DO NOT pay for them - it was quite an eye opener standing in the chemist !! I think the magic word was Income Support.........................

I don't have to pay for mine mrs.chappie , good job too seeing as I'm on about 15 items each month and 17 every 3 months , and one tablet that I have costs �5 per tab and no way could I pay that I'm on 2 of those a day . 4 inhalers , boxes of nebulizer fluids , 6 other types of tabs , and 3 other items including Fresubin drinks which are � 3 each and I have 30 every 15 days . I'm aware I'm costing my county a lot .

Unfortunately, I pay for all of mine, and I also pay for lazy arses on benefits that are quite capable of working but can't be bothered.
And single mothers that have school age children that again can't be arsed to work. As soon as my daughter was old enough to go to school, I couldn't wait to go back to work and I was a single mother (through no fault of my own).

Icemaiden, I was paying �21 per month, and sometimes �28, that's why I bought a year's pre-paid. It's a big saving and if you get several items, you should sign up for pre-paid too.
