Don't mean Barnacle Bill, do you?

What do you want?  A photo?

Hrothgar the Dane, was a Viking raider. He was famous for the fact that, before every battle, we would cry Bairn ni kel (Dont kill the children or barn ni kval "children no kill"), as his nickname, and surname, gradually became Barnikel.

Spinchimp, your what your name suggests, a prat. If you are obviously incapable of intellegent comment, dont bother. The site is better off without such childish interventions

Octavius, thank you , dont need pic, just any information . Hrothgar ? thanks

Hello Octavius! Remember me? Seem to know quite a lot about Vikings. I've always been fascinated by them. Can you recommend a few good books? Thank you and excuse me extern 76 for using use your thread so impertinently.

xmanfe - sorry but I have a bad memory for names.  I can't recommend any books in particular, but if you are really fascinated, take a trip to York.  It's a good place to start.  Cheers

O

Extern76 -terribly sorry to upset you old chap - just thought a stab at humour (admittedly not very funny) wasn't out of place.

Incidentally, big brain, 'your what your name suggests' should read 'you are' or 'you're'. Never mind though, we can't all be perfect. Toodle pip!

I can

So can I! (I'm French). Incidentally, Octavius, I'm thee teacher whom you suggested a nice acrostic for a schoolgirl named Sandra (Some things in life are bad...remember?). Thanks again, she was delighted.

As for Vikings - not being able to travel at the moment (I'm broke and in Strasbourg, a bit far for an afternoon walk)- any good (non-fiction) readings anyone could suggest?

xmanfe - we all can can!

Now I remember you!  That must be a million answers ago, but thanks for remembering me, I am glad to hear your poem worked!

I still cannot be specific about books, but Strasbourg has a rich history you might like to exploer (I am sure you already know this!).  Details here
