Windows 7 and Dell?

I have decided to give-up on trying to find the 'guy at Dell, who has the last remaining working-brain-cell.'

I have talked to numerous Dell people (all difficult to understand their spoken English language), who listen then send me to someone else and each time the first response from them is, "So you want to buy a PC with Windows 7 installed"

Maybe someone here knows..................
Will Windows 7 work on my one year old Dell Inspiron 530, and will there be a browser available.

If yes, a ball park figure for cost and delivery in the England, would be most welcome.

AB users have never let me down, so in expectation, I express my wholehearted appreciation for your assistance and advice

Sorry to moan, but, I'm just plain tired of having to fight to get someone to reply with a simple answer to a simple question

Yes windows 7 should work on your computer

but why would you contact dell about it? it's nothing to do with them what you do with your computer after you've bought it, if you want windows7 then that's entirely down to you

just buy windows7 from a normal software supplier.

Well (if you're lucky) you may be able to find somewhere to pre-order it today. However, the European versions require that you provide your own browser (you can obviously use IE8 - but it doesn't come bundled with W7) and are for "clean installs" only, so you will need to back up your documents and reinstall all your programs.

Here's a mystery. I just received a 'link' in an e-mail from Dell, that sends me to a Dell FAQ's site which has a Windows 7 section, with masses of information. As a very-old, now retired Naval Security Analyst, I don't believe in "coincidence" but it sure is helpful. It is the first time they have sent me anything helpful............but they are always sending me loads of sales bumf

ChuckFickens, what you say is true, but, I have found it prudent to check with the manufacturer's official stance regarding compatability. Thanks for the quick and useful response.

Thanks LeMarchand, I did consider trying to pre-order, but, I'm not yet sure I even want to upgrade. I usually wait until I see how many 'debug' fixes are issued...........especially urgent ones.

Microsoft are selling Home Premium at the moment for under �50.

Compared to the "normal" price of Windows this is a good deal. Normal price for Home Premium is over �150 I think.

Even if there are bugs they always get fixed so you could just delay installing it for 3 months and by then most of the major bugs will be fixed.

But has been said, you will need to back up EVERY personal file off your computer before doing an install as there is no upgrade path.

No browser included, but I bet loads of companies will make their browsers available on give away disks around that time (on magazines or in PC World and other places)
