Hi All, We have a goldfish bowl with two small fish in. it has that blue gravel stuff in the bottom and some pond weed. We have to clean irt out every three to four days as the water turns milky coloured and you can't see the fish. it is a large bowl, about 18" across and about 15" high, and when 3/4 filled it is a job to lift it. it is not in sunlight, we have tried two types of fish food, and bought an aerator pump with one of those long blocks that emits loads of little bubbles. the fish do not seem to get distressed, but the water does start to smell a bit ( not much ). any ideas? is it possible to fit a filter to a bowl, or should we get a tank? thanks, alf.
Cloudy water is usually due to low oxygen levels.
Your fish are probably using more air than the air stone can supply in a small tank.If it were me I would get a larger tank, the bigger the better.
A normal shaped tank with a filter is always better.
But I suspect the clouding in the bowl may be caused by overfeeding. Feed only enough so that the fish clean it up in 5 minutes.
