I've tried upholsery sprays but they ony seem to last for a short time, the smell is deep embedded.

Other than parking the car and then lighting an oil burner with scent in it or joss sticks is there any way of getting rid of the smoke or dog smells?

Quit smoking and get rid of the dogs. Or buy some febreze.
Stop letting your dogs smoke in the car!

last time i used a valeter to clear smoker smells he said he used a "fogging machine", at least that was what it sounded like!
