Annoying cat

We have 2 cats & installed a cat flap for them to come & go as they pleased (except at night); it is magnetic & originally we tried putting magnets on their collars but they kept twisting them so we just leave the flap on 'open'. Last year a neighbour's cat suddenly started appearing on a regular basis & helping himself to our cats' food in the kitchen, then strolling into the house as if he lived here! We'd put him out but he kept coming back, and often we'd find him curled up on our bed, sofa, carpet etc. He'd stay forever if we'd let him. Our own cats are wimps & do nothing but growl at him & scarper (even though they are both bigger than him). Each time he appears we put him outside but within minutes he's back inside again, so we'd have to shut the cat flap (leaving our cats stranded). He claws at the flap for a few minutes before giving up & slinking off - but not for long as he soon reappears & tries again. No matter how often we get rid of him he turns up time & time again. We tried talking to his owner who just shrugged & suggested we stop feeding him - but how can we do that when we've our own cats to feed!?

My question is this: how do we (legally & humanely!) get rid of the ****** (ideally the neighbour but for now just the cat) without inconveniencing our own cats?

Every time he comes in the house, squirt him with a water pistol. This won't hurt him but he won't like it! He should start visiting less and less. We did this with a neighbour's cat and eventually we only had to pick the water pistol up and he'd run out of the cat flap as fast as his little legs could carry him!

Ah yes, the water pistol. Keep meaning to get one; however, he's such a tenacious little git we might end up drenching the house before he gets the message. Actually we did chuck some water on him on 2 occasions when he was outside the kitchen but he still came back!

We had this problem a few months back, and tired of our boy being pushed around in his own home, we tried a variation on the water technique....

Half a pint of sticky orange juice did the trick...

The cat was of course unharmed, but he's kept his distance since then!

instead of a water pistol, use the spray bottles, similar to what hairdressers use and what my mum uses to do the ironing, lol. It make a hissing sound when you use it. Kinda of like a 2-in1, if the hissing dont work then the water follows. As soon as i pick up my water bottle the cats run off. I use mine for training our cats, they seem to have developed an habit of scratching sofa (i've had all 3 a min of 8 years, first time they've done it) water bottle works a treat, they hate the look of it. Worth a try i thought.

the same thing happened to one of my mums friends and she eventually found a cat flap which comes with a collar and the flap only opens when the collarcomes near it-unfourtanatly i dont no where she gotit from but you could look on google or ebay or somthing

yeh i agree with the others, just spray the cat with water! this sorta happens with us..out neighbours cat comes around quite a bit and just comes strolling in the house but we don't seem to mind about it cuz we love cats and were 99% sure that our male is the father cuz its face is nearly adentical to our other little girl who we know is his doughter..and if our kittie's realy don't want thi imposter in there house they just chase it off!
