Ipod artists

Sometimes when I put a song on my Ipod - either from a CD or from Istore - it doesn't put the artist's name into the 'Artist' category on the Ipod screen. The name appears on the screen while the song's playing, and it appears on my computer screen (in alphabetical order in the artist list), so it's registering ok - just not appearing on the Ipod itself. But it means I can't dig out the song in question unless I spend a while scrolling though the 'Songs' list. Any suggestions?

(One may be to create a playlist of 'Artists that Ipod Won't Recognise', but is there an easier way?)

I suspect some information is not present in the ID3 tags of those songs, probably that of the 'artist' appearing in the 'Artist' tag but not the 'Album Artist' tag.

yes, I figured it must be some sort of tagging problem, though one that's way over my head. Is there anything I can do about it via my computer or Ipod?

You can view and edit the metadata (tags) using utilities such as Mp3tag
