i had a fairly large clump which i split into four to put into large pots some months ago . Three have got a number of new culms but the fourth nothing. I know it's still living as its got new leaves. How can I encourage growth ?

Have you fed the plants? Sometimes the trauma of splitting a plant sends it to sleep for a bit. If you give it a good feed it will wake up and produce new growth fairly soon.
