Chris Patten was the last British governor of Hong Kong kindly refered to by HK people as "Fatty".

He was a heavy weight in the first Major government who lost his seat in the eoection of 1992.

I have been to Chengdu and there is no shortage of Panda's. They really are not endangered other than that they are now just tourist animals.

What is endangered is any farmer with land anywhere near them. They are being pushed out by state "Environmental agencies" and property developers who often seem very connected!
