Nippon?
Or Nihon. When? Imperialist Japan was Dai Nippon 大日本, 'Great Japan' (I suspect after some misunderstanding of GB - they call the British Empire DaiEI Teikoku 大英帝国, 'Great British Empire') and their extended empire was I think also called DaiNippon Kyooeiken (among other things), Kyooeiken 共栄圏 being 'co-prosperity sphere'.
