who pays for the guests when a couple gets married abroad?

We paid for ourselves - though we could hardly afford it - and wouldn't have expected anyone to pay for us to get there. Other family members couldn't afford to attend but there was no animosity. It's the honour of being invited that counts.
I think the guests are usually expected to pay for themselves - isn't that exactly why lots of people go abroad to get married - cos only the very close friends and family that really care will pay to come and all those relatives you never see from one wedding/funeral to another don't bother!! Often the bride and groom will pay for the hotel for a few guests like their immediate family but on the whole guests pay for themselves
i think the bride and groom pay for the weddding abroad as its their decision to get married in another county.
