Orange 'blackberries'

Hi,

On holiday in Scotland earlier this week I noticed a hedgerow plant that looked identical to an ordinary blackberry, but the ripe fruits were a bright orange colour. i know there are many different types of bramble, but have never come across an orange variety. Can anyone tell me it's name (common or proper) and is it edible?

The only suggestion I have is the raspberry- it does grow very well in the wild in the UK and it should be fruiting about now. Though normally red the fruit can vary from yellow to red and all shades in between- if anyone has a better suggestion would love to hear it

At this time of the year here in Scotland, brambles (blackberries) are nowhere near ripe.  Lucky if we get them by the end of August!  So I would agree wholeheartedly with burnhal and say raspberries to you.
