If you're wearing trousers it doesn't help, the friction just rubs the skin raw. There is a lotion on teh market which is supposed to help prevet ingrowning hairs, I forget what it's called though, I'm sure someone knows the name.
Bikini line wise, I don't know if there's much you can do if you're shaving. The hair is curly so it's always going to be more likely you'll get ingrowning hairs. It sounds icky but you can always get rid of them yourself using tweezers, it'll hurt the first few times, but after a while you'll be fine. And if you wax that area I'm sure it won't bother you at all.
A lot of us girlies suffer from ingrown hairs so i think this new product will get a lot of buyers! Where can we but it though? Boots?
Ps Sounds crazy but i read in a magazine that blotting Vodka on your bikini line helps prevent a rash etc. lol. I wont be trying it myself but just thought id pass it on.
