For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I do, seriously, recall somewhere I heard that animal saliva contains very high amounts of chemicals to help blood clotting so allowing an animal ( do seem to recall it mentioned cats rather than dogs) to lick an open wound was not seen as a bad thing.
