When using my cd drive........either to listen to a cd, or burning a cd.........it messes with the sound on my machine.

For example, when listening to a cd, it will crackle. Or if I am burning a cd, while listening to a totally seperate mp3, the mp3 crackles. There are nothing wrong with the cd's or mp3....it is only when the cd drive is being used that this happens.

Anyone any idea what this could be, or how I can fix this???

what OS are you running, windowsXP?

also, are you playing your CD through the audio wire or doing it digitally? should be done digitally, i think that the analogue wire may cause crackles and things. if the PC is like 4 years old or younger, it'll probably just be digital.

yeah its xp, service pack 2. its 3 years old, and I think its digital.

this has only started happening very recently, and I'm totally baffled.

have you installed anything that would make use of the CD drive? like nero or something?

i have media player, real player and prassi primo. But I have had these for donkeys.
try uninstalling media player, and then downloading the latest version and re-installed.

or, try installed iTunes from Apple, and see if your CDs play ok there...
