No Network on Laptop

Well eventually after all my Answerbank questions, I bought a laptop. However the network coverage was so bad in my kitchen I had to send it back, and I really wanted to use it in front of the tellie. Is there anything I could have bought (i.e. some type of booster) that would have made the network better? It only worked next to my desktop Pc upstairs, I didn't need two computers in one rooom ... Thanks all.

What sort of router do you have? Who is your ISP?
Had you set the laptop up properly with the router?

Yes, all set up properly through AOL. My router is a speedtouch. Worked in certain rooms in the house, but not where I needed it !
