Unproven anecdotal testimonials will say it's quite good for you. It really can't hurt, however only organic, unfltered apple cider vinegar should be used, according to a friend that uses it regularly. It will be somewhat cloudy and if you look at it closely you'll see small, spiderweb structures which is the 'mother' of the vinegar. Two teaspoons vinegar mixed with two teaspoons of honey in an 8 ounce glass of water three times a day is said to be quite helpful for number of things, including, accorcing to our friend, arthritic pain...
it's all hype. i am a health freak and i drank it everyday for 2 years, and i have not seen any miracles or changes within myself. phony bolagna stuff
Wonderful stuff. All sorts of benefits. It would take a book to describe them all. A teaspoonful in a glass of water is one of the very few drinks that will actually quench your thirst after only a couple of mouthfuls. Unlike water alone, it restores the electrolytic balance, or something - and it'll leave your mouth feeling clean and fresh. A tablespoonful in a bathroom sinkful of water, used as a rinse, will neutralise any soap alkalines on your skin or hair. Leaves the hair glossy and in great condition. Mixed into oats, horses love it! Tons more... But it must be apple cider vinegar.

thank you all very much for your answers

Red wine vinegar, rice wine vinegar, malt vinegar and Non-Brewed Condiment will also clean your sink, your windows, quench your thirst (the ethanoic acid in all the above dissociates in water and becomes an electrolytic solution. Hydrochloric acid, sulphuric and hydrofluoric acids will also 'restore your electrolytic balance') - it will also (if left long enough) de-scale your toilet.

Ethanoic acid itself, has an LD50 (rat, oral) (ie, the quantity given orally to rats that will kill exactly half of them) of 3.31 g per Kg of body mass, and a LDlo (lowest reported lethal dose) in man of only 0.31g per Kg.

Ok, vinegars of all types are dilute solutions of (hopefully) naturally produced ethanoic acid (though the chip shop stuff ("NBC") is just watered down industrial ethanoic acid with a bit of caramel for colouring) - but whether it is good for you? Drink nothing but cider vinegar and you will eventually die. Eat nothing but chips, but put nothing but natural sea salt and cider vinegar on them is hardly going to make you super healthy. Vinegar is not something that is (or should) be consumed in sufficient quantities to be considered "good for you".

As for ensuring it is apple cider vinegar? Is cider not made fom anything else other than apples?

(Please, please. please do not say that cider can also be made from pears.)

Hi brachiopod - never been p****i**sed in that field in Glastonbury on Pear Cider then have you!!

Change to silly 'Zomerzet' accent here: well my lover, have a peek at Brothers http://www.brotherscider.co.uk and, well its a cider - not perry. All to do with the fermentation process, my dear.

Back to normal: and a list of stockists on site as well if you fancy some to try, or buy online and recreate that 'feeling'....

I stand corrected - cheers nickmo !

Now where's me credit card - i'm going to order me some perry.... err....pear cider.

;o)

actually, there is alot of apple cider vinegar information out there. There were articles about it in the daily telegraph. Sir Ranolf , the artic explorer swore by it and is on record saying "it totally kelp my arthritis at bay". Brian blessed also swears by it.

I agree there is alot of hype about it, and large companies have sought to commercialize apple cider vinegar, stripping it of it goodness to make it look good and filling the shelves of so-called 'health shops'.

These guys ( http://www.bobbysheal...ple-Cider-Vinegar.php ) sell this stuff online and it comes from a local devon orchard. They even have scanned letters on their website from their customers! Media URL: http://www.bobbyshealthyshop.co.uk/Apple-Cider-Vinegar.php
