Can I use last years Christmas stamps?

Just come across a book of last years Christmas stamps.Does anyone know if its ok to use them as I would hate to think my friends would have to pay a surcharge! Many thanks.

If it just says first or second class it is OK.
Just to clarify - ALL stamps since decimalisation are valid. If they have a value on eg 20p then they are worth that amount, if they say 1st or 2nd they are valid for 1st or second class mail accordingly. If you have 2, 12 1/2 p stamps you can put them on a letter and they would make 25p. I work in a Post Office and we had a memo about this a couple of months ago.
I've just posted off ten cards with last year's Christmas stamps so I hope it's OK. I'm pretty certain it is.
