Cataloguing Old Stamps

Hi, can anyone out there perhaps point me in the direction of an online postage stamp directory, ideally where pictures are available to view please?
We have inherited thousands of stamps and while some are readily identifiable, others defy all searching. We have found a stamp collectors convention (I'm not 100% looking forward to visiting), but we would appreciate having some idea of values before we head off there.
I'm not sure if this is the ideal category for the question, but people on here have always managed to 'come good' before!
Thanks in advance.

Bear in mind that the catalogue valuation can be many times what you will get selling - most non specialised collections are worth very little. I was offered £20 for an inherited collection that if you went through the catalogue valuing each stamp was 'worth' hundreds if not thousands. And that was only because one particular stamp caught the dealer's eye.
... or possibly here

£30 a year mind for decent access.

Good luck !
Usually your local library has all the Stanley Gibbons catalogues, but usually they are not for taking out.
Matter of interest, when I typed 'catalogues' the spell checker said it was not the correct spelling and suggested the American way 'catalogs'. Why should this be on a UK based site
It's not the web site at fault but your spell checker is set for American English
This may not be the best time to sell a stamp collection. They are worth very little compared to catalogue prices in most cases. Who knows. in a few years, stamps may have become a thing of the past and vaklues may go up again.
