I have been looking at my electricity bill and it says that if you are planning to move house, you can submit your meter readings up to 7 days prior to your moving day.

Who pays for the power you use after you have submitted the readings? Does the supplier estimate how much you are going to use in your final week, and bill you for an estimated amount?

Yes, they will estimate the usage for the final few days.and include it in your bill. I don't know what happens though if the new house owner/tenant then submits a markedly different reading.
There's nothing to stop your asking for a reading to be taken on the day of moving, or taking your own reading on that day for submission to the company. Tell your buyer what you intend to do and leave them a copy of the readings you take. Taking it at mid-day, or as close to it as possible, would seem the fairest option for all concerned.
Hi,we moved about 8 weeks ago. I called gas and electric companies and set up the new accounts. On the day we moved I called them with the readings about lunchtime and they billed my final accounts to the new address.I also left the readings for our buyer.
