According to my dictionary, the defination of 'Treason' is :- the crime of betraying one's country.

Is this crime still on the statute book?

It is still on the Statute books.

"Betraying one's country" is a rather loose definition.

There are lots of sportsmen who have betrayed their country to play for another country on the basis of some spurious grandparent.

It would be harsh to execute them.

Satisfying ... but harsh.
