Tenancy agreement

I made an Assured Short hold Tenancy agreement in September that would end in June. However, in winter my accommodation was not comfortable at all, I was freezing. Therefore in December I asked from the landlord to leave and look for another accommodation. He was really nice he agreed that I could leave even if we would not find somebody else that would replace me for the whole time up to June. However all this was in words only. Eventually we found someone to stay until April. However, now in February he is asking me to go back in April and stay there until June because the room will be empty again. However since January I have been staying at the new residence where the agreement is ending in June. So I wonder if really need to move at the previous accommodation or not? Or pay the rent for the previous accommodation as well for April, May, and June? Because my understanding was that I was released by the contact depending on our verbal communication. And its impossible for me to pay rent for both accommodations. .

Do you still have a deposit with the landlord in one of the Schemes, or has the deposit been returned?
I think it would be very difficult for the landlord to force you to go back now that your tenancy has, in effect, ended. I would say it's up to the landlord to find another tenant and that your tenancy has finished.
It will complicate things though if he still has not released your deposit from a Scheme because he could try to take the rent from for April to June from that.
If you've had your deposit back then I wouldn't worry.
