Why don't motorists flash waiting pedestrians about 100 yds in advance?
Then a) the pedestrian doesn't have to wait and see if the driver is going to stop and b) the motorist doesn't have to slow down.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.As far as I was aware, the pedestrian has priority on a zebra crossing. It's not up to the motorists to 'allow' a pedestrian to cross. A motorist 'has' to stop if a pedestrian wishes to cross.
Though, that said, it seems some motorists don't even want to slow down!
