Dell netbook with windows 7

The touchpad is driving me mad - the cursor keeps jumping around the screen and a small scroll bar keeps popping up at the side of the curser and then the screen keeps scrolling up and down very fast - im realy struggling to navigate around the page - can i change the settings ??? any help would be much appreciated. thanks

I have recently bought a dell laptop and although it might not be the same heres how i adjust the settings on the touchpad.

at the bottom right there is a little arrow pointing up for you to show hidden icons on the taskbar, in there is an option for me to afjust the touch pads scrolling settings.
