Can you error check in windows xp ?

When I had win 98 se,you could error check thru system tools but I cant seem to find a similar option in win xp.I want to run an error check as my pc has shut-itself down twice tonight.

How did you do it Mattk  as I have had simular ploblems with errors, i think mine are caused by downloading through a firewall  ?
