Just completed this one after a fearsome struggle. I thought this one was fiendish. Where is everybody? Struggling like me?

Thank you, K - found them. It's good to see that the gang's all here!
Whenever I encounter the phrase "Printer's Devilry" my mind reverts 40 years to sitting at the back of the physics lab at Quarry Bank High School, Liverpool - my eyes glazed over.

I read the preamble and concluded that there was no way that I would complete this in four hours - the limit I set myself some time ago. Anyway, thanks to Ruthrobin for the "fiendish" warning (just in case I might have weakened) I am currently laid up for another three weeks after a knee op and need all the puzzles that I can devour, but I think that I'll just catch up with EV, Mephisto and AZED for now.

Best of luck to the real solvers.

Cluelessjoe - yet another late goal for the Real Madrid of Yorkshire !!!
Always most satisfying when appears very complex, but gradually clarity emerges. I found that once started cold solving certain patterns became clear quickly, which assisted greatly. Only having Chambers, the keywords remained a mystery to me until late on and a quick search on Google (once I had deciphered one). This helped on the other and helped me complete after a long afternoon.
Hi bobbycollins - very unReal Madrid since our famous victory over the red devils. Looking like we might have to suffer the playoff lottery yet again!. Pleased to see your result today - and I hope the knee is back in service quickly, meanwhile take it easy - cJ

Bobby Collins, have a go anyway. It took me about ten hours but it often does and a pattern does emerge. Once you stumble on the keywords all becomes easier. Best of luck with the knee recovery.

Hope everyone has realized that there is another thread being spun that was started before this one. Kayakamina pointed it out above:

Sorry, I think the duplicate thread was because I started the other one under Q&P rather than Crosswords.

Must try harder.
