OK so our resident Europhiles will probably come out in boils at the mere mention of UKIP but leaving that aside for a minute, the President of the EU is instantly forgettable. I mean everytime I wonder who the President is I look it up then instanly forget, even typing this I've forgotten, Hermit Van Rumpypumy or something! Surely if we are going to have a President let's have one with a bit of oomph!
Seriously though this argument is nonsense because it's not "President of the EU" at least not in the way that Obama in President of the United states.
Go and have a look at what the role entails and you'll see that there is no reall power there. Sure there is a fair bit of influence, chairing meetings and power over agendas .
Jose Barrosso is the real president of Europe. Note that he sits alongside this unforgettable Dane. Barrosso is the figurehead and has done a wonderful job so far and long may he reign.
