colour of bra under white shirt.

my friend says that her school are going to make it a policy that girls have to wear a white, beige or another very pale coloured bra, as the school uniform includes a white blouse/shirt.
Can they do this at a state (don't know if it affects the situation) school?

The old maxim of zero tolerance works well for me. Or perhaps start with the small things and the rest will follow more easily.
It is partly because of this relativly modern mentality of 'you can't dictate to me what I ....(add your own)..' that has made the worst schools worse (in my opinion anyway).
You only have to look at the schools that were failing before and how they were turned around to see that making strickter rules helped. It isn't the bee all to end all but as Tesco say every little helps.

When I was at school, white socks were outlawed for boys and at the end of some assemblies all the boys had to stay behind hike up their trouser legs to show they weren't offending.
At the "graduation evening" when we all went and collected our o level and cse certificates one of the teachers jokingly asked us to do it again and it was about 90% white socks, I'd gone out and bought some specially as I didn't own any. I think that sums up the sense in petty school rules.

Rev, that reminds me of my school. We could wear white or grey socks - not navy or light brown (even though navy was the main uniform colour). However, if you wore tights then you could only wear tan or navy. No grey or white because that was a 'sixth form privilege'.
I really do believe that if white/grey socks and/or tan/navy tights had been anything liked fashionable, they'd have banned them just because of that.

How on earth can plain tights be classed as a fashion item? I bet your female teachers all wear them, though. Of course, they'll tell you that it's a privilege that comes with adulthood.
If I was your friend, I'd go to school wearing a bright red bra just for the hell of it ... and matching knickers too. ;-)
And tell her this ... they can send you home for not wearing correct uniform. They can even exclude you (and believe me, that's not the end of the world). But whatever happens, they can't force you to remove any item of clothing. They are not as powerful as they'd like you to think they are. Do not be afraid of them.

well the school won't care about me as i've never been there but i'm just saying how its pointless when the pupils wear jumpers most of the time.
Plus apparently (i don't know if this is true), today, someone did wear a brightly coloured bra (most people don't as it does look cheap) and a teacher told them to wear their jumper or take the bra off!

How about your 'friend' understands that the rules are there to install discipline and respect in an individual.
By trying to rebel, you are just being a normal teenager, however you need to prepare for the fact you will fail. The school will win on this.
As regard to the clothes worn by adults, when you are one you can do the same. Until then concentrate on studying and forget whether your bra is black, white, or dayglo!!

Bob we aren't trying to rebel, we are jsut saying its pointless as girls don't want to look cheap and tacky so they either wear a light coloured rba, which you barely see even if it is slightly coloured, and msot of them wear jumpers msot of the time anyway.
Why did you put friend in inverted commas?

What's so great about discipline and respect. Your making school sound like a facist state, Bob.
I'm still rebelling and I'm now 42. Did my school win, well I've got a pair of white socks on tonight and if you want my respect you have to earn it not instill it so I'd say no.
The colour of a bra strap may be unimportant in the scheme of things but the girl who qustions a pointless school rule might just grow up to be someone who changes the world by questioning the authorities.
