You seem to have been wandering in the desert for forty years, and only tumbleweed to break the monotony.
The trouble is that you all seem to broadly agree with each other, being a crowd of heathens who choose to live in denial of a higher power.
Maybe it is time for you to listen to the message in the gospels, and consider the great free offer that God makes to you all, the forgiveness of sin for eternity, and life after death in the presence of the Lord.
So, why not make a start and acknowledge the, "God of your understanding," that is, your personal perception of God, and rejection of the atheists, "faith," in science?

What is really crazy and dishonest? Without a jot of evidence to support the reality of a divine author it's reasonable to exclude such an entity from all possibilities - it's even reasonable to suggest it might exist - but it's completely irrational to insist that it definitely exists.
As per your request . . .

You might want to be a little more careful where and about on whose toes you might be steppin' there Theland. These feet of mine have grown to extraordinary lengths defending myself from assaults against reason by those who have neither leg nor ledge to stand on. As one who has established and maintains many convictions of my own which by virtue of their number and specificity are marginally excepted I too face assaults from many quarters coming at me from all directions. At the risk and peril of being accused of aiding and abetting the enemy I offer you the following advice: The more beliefs you throw out there for examination the greater your risk of exposing the faulty premises that your entire ideology teeters on.

Reason does not permit me to deny the existence of what is in truth a lie, perpetrated by those whose only power rests in their control over those who choose to believe it . . . on faith alone.

No faith is required to observe what the evidence has demonstrated, that science has proven to be the preeminent method for the discovery and understanding of the nature of reality about which the alleged alternative, God, offers only obfuscation and the assertion that human understanding is both unnecessary and impossible. Belief in God is not a cure for the need to seek inebriation but a symptom of the wholesale surrender to that which is the source of a need to seek an escape from the consequences of selective reasoning come full circle.
Chakka has made an astute observation. Perhaps even more worrisome is the multitudes that share an ideology which can only wreak havoc on ones self image and self worth exacerbating a dreadful need to seek an undeserved salvation, ironically, from the very one who in believing and following has led them to the scrap yard of self loathing only to worship that which has stripped them bare of their last shred of common decency and self-respect.

It saddens and humbles me to see in you the manifestation of the fate that would have been no less my own had I when presented with the alternative chosen to believe in that which reason disputed, that I stood to gain something for nothing at the ultimate price and incalculable cost of self deception consequently blinding myself to the ability to recognise that belief in God has been the source and cause of many woes and that faith is in fact a cancer that devours ones ability to reason making one a victim of their own greed.

There is no reason to assert nor any way to prove the existence of an entity which is in belief unavailable to observation and by definition, incomprehensible in nature. Belief alone has no capacity to alter the facts nor to reverse the process by which knowledge is obtained. Desires do not transform the reality from which all rational desires arise and to which reason tells us they must conform. Feelings are not the source of understanding but indicators of the state of mind from whence they arise bringing to our attention that which in uncertainty is in need of or in happiness the product of a completed process of understanding.
God is not an answer to any question that may formulate in a mind in search of truth but a question that by virtue of being asked by those seeking an escape from that which they suspect but refuse to acknowledge has been conveniently removed from the realm of any possibility of being answered.

God offers us no explanations capable of improving our understanding of the nature of the world we face and within which we have no choice but to learn what is required of us to find happiness in living but offers us only the ultimatum and empty promise of a contentment that will be found neither beyond nor within the grave. When God implores us to love our enemies the deadly secret He fails to disclose is that He is the greatest, fiercest, most vicious and despite claims to the contrary with respect to our sanity the most unforgiving of all.

I formulated these thoughts and expressed them in words, not because I care exclusively about either you or me alone Theland but because I care about the welfare of us both and anyone else willing to consider their validity and able to find themselves worthy of their own capacity to seek and realise the benefits of acquired truth. But alas, common horse sense has demonstrated time and again that you can lead someone to reason, but you can't make them think.

But even if you disagree with all that I've offered for your consideration I hope that at the very least this might strengthen you resolve to fight those who you perceive to be your enemy because what you have offered for my consideration has helped me to clarify within my own mind the nature of that which has attempted and failed to weaken my resolve and blind me to what is possible to those willing to embrace reality and realise their potential and capacity for enjoying life.

Thank you for that Mibs. For me there remain too many unanswered questions for me to sit in peace with science alone. Waldo has repeatedly asserted that in some instances, the best answer is to simply say that we don't know. I am not satisfied with that, and the beginning of all things must have both a cause and a reason.
I doubt science can ever answer either.
Waldo is right to say that in some instances we can only say we don't know. I've said the same thing myself many times. I can understand you needing an answer, Theland, but I can't understand why you conclude that the particular interloper you worship satisfies that role. Just honestly examining his credentials must tell you that if a super power is responsible then it has to be something far superior to him.

Hello Luna, clearly no bands to lead then, so thank you for volunteering to head the Tumbleweed Appreciation Society.

If we were to find proof that a God of anyone's understand were real, then the debate on here would change enormously - especially if it transpired that the proven God wasn't 'God'.

But if we knew what it was, and we knew it wasn't 'Him' with the capital 'H', they would have no grounds for kicking up a stink. Err ..... nothing new there then. Just a thought. :o)

Oh, I think the believers are absolutely sure about the identity of their God, Luna. It's the one who influenced the bible and the koran. I can't see any alien visitation changing their minds.

Got to go to bed now. Night. x

The Pixie who lived in the sky
Said "Believe in me or you will die"
But the heathens on earth
Gave his words a wide berth
So the question is "will they all fry?"

Oh flippin 'eck but Horizon on the yelly tonight just showed how superfluous were the basis for scientific assertions about the origin of the universe, and also the mechanics of its sustenance.
Dark matter, dark energy and dark flow - indeed!
Never seen it, heard it, smelled it, and it doesn't show up on any instruments, but the Prof & Co all assert its reality!
Oh yeah?
Listen honey, I didn't just walk off the banana boat you know, so don't try sell me no designer label theory that was cocked up in the back streets of Taiwan!
Science presented here on this site is like a demi-god to those with a mid spectrum grasp of reality, but they don't see the analogous equivalent of ultra violet or infra red, and live in the ignorance of an ulimately broader thingummyjig.
Funny, I thought I'd addressed the above point when you stated it previously a page or so ago, but you don't bother to address it, just assert your point again as though no one had bothered to correct the errors in your thinking.
So those who advocate science over God live in ignorance and have a mid-spectrum grasp on reality, but you with your God theories have reality nailed? How? And why is your version of reality 'Him' with the capital H?
