In an earlier question, someone said that 'someone shouldn't get parole'.
Do people think that people can't change? Are there certain crimes (like the rape of a 89 year old) that are too heinous to ever let them out, or should we try to rehabilitate people?
A lot of people used to smoke. However after education and government pressure, there are less and less smokers about.
Same could be said for drink drivers or speeders.
Most people who speed do not think through the consequences of their actions (should they hit a pedestrian).
A lot of people who commit a heinous crime are mentally disturbed. Do you think that these illnesses can be cured

Sorry if I upset you, didn't mean to.
I was only curious since your post was only one up from the post on the same subject.
If we all answered a post by introducing a separate post, then yes space would be a premium.
But to contribute to your post, I think there is a big difference from packing up smoking than packing up raping old ladies.
Once we start making excuses such as being mentally disturbed, the lawers will have a birthday, just as they now do under the human rights excuses.
So no they should give all animals such as this the maximum sentence.

But surely we do this already. A wife who murders a husband in cold blood is treated differently to a wife who has suffered mental torture from her husband.
We also acknowledge that women who have just given birth can suffer from mental issues such as post natal depression - and a woman who kills a baby due to this illness is not treated in the same way as a 'normal' murderer.

Interesting that you posted this, I wonder if a husband who murders his wife, because he suffered mental torture from her, would be treated differently?

and what is your 'take' on the significant number of people convicted of murder later found to be not guilty?
Does your capitol punishment strategy come with some sort of guarantee or does it have a process for bringing people back to life?
