When you go to the Open Office site to download the program, are you telling it to RUN the program or SAVE the file on to your computer??
The file you download should be OOo.3.2.0_ etc_etc_wJRE.exe
I would be inclined to SAVE the EXE file to your computer and then try to install it later.
It's possible that a fragment of your original Open Office program is still in the Registry and is stopping the program from being installed again.
Just a thought!!

hello wak, it looks like i´ve found the root of the problem, power!!!!!!!!!
as you know there are 3 methods of internet connection, cable, wi-fi, and the portable "stick" . well i have the stick which i beleive has 3gb.
to cut long story short, i went to my very helpful pc shop, and asked them to help, he was overloaded with work, so i thought id look at my emails, then i thought why not try for the uphteen time to download OO, would you beleive it, no problem, but i couldnt do it all, as the shop was closing, so i´ll be there tomorrow at 10.
ps my stick couldnt compete with wi-fi connection in pc shop

now i´m back to square 1!!!!, i naively thought i could download OO, today, i had my battery fully charged with 4 hours power. but for unknown reason i didnt get OO today. the signs were ominous when i started to download, it said 25mins time to completion, yesterday and another time it said about 2hrs. so i downloaded OO, but what i got was??well put it this way, the ikon on my screen shows a brown folder, and underneath it says..Open Office org 3.2 (install), when i clicked on the ikon, i got a application window, with several files, but nothing for me to click onto to start composing a letter????

I downloaded and saved Open Office a long time ago and it was version 2.2.1.
This was an .EXE file which you double click on to get it to install.
When installing, it probably has to contact the OO website either for update or other information so you will need to be on line when installing it.
Hope this helps.

hello wak, i took yr advice i beleive i removed every trace of the original OOfrom my pc. but now i´m just wondering if its still in the system, because i just tried again to download it from a link sent to me from another ab, it stopped after 10mins, then i tried to use the mirror, and again it stopped downloading after 15mins(screen goes dark, when i press enter, its stopped!!)
HI, Piggynose, If the screen goes dark it could be your screen saver cutting in.
Pressing enter could interrupt the loading. The next time your screen goes dark just click the left mouse button. If you keep the mouse cursor moving every 5 or 10 minutes the screen saver shouldn't cut in.
Where are you saving the file to?? Somewhere on the hard drive?? or the desk top??
