when one reads the bible one must remeber that the bible only tells us what the people did and some of how they lived. it does not tell us what people did every second of every minute. for example after samson battled a huge phillestine army in which samson was victories thanks to his great strengh a judged and whatched over the israelites for 20 years. now getting to the point what did samson do in those 20 years? the bible skips that 20 years and jumps to when he met delilah. when king david went into exile what did he do the bible does not say but maybe we where only meant to know what we know?

This is one time i really dont want to STICK AROUND as you say I will not get into and arguement about the Holy Bible, never have and wont start now, i should have kept my mouth shut, i was brought up a Roman Catholic but havent practiced in nearly 30 yrs but still in my heart of hearts the bible's word is true, and althought i have went down a different path, i'll never question what i have been taught over the years.

I can't say I've had any meaningful conversation with a Vicar and I feel that they would be offended or take if personally if I questioned their knowledge.

I have been interested in archaeology and mythology for a long time, but I have never had the opportunity to study those subjects in depth, the same applies to the Bible although I have treated it with reverence rather than as a mythological collection of writings, there are some references to Egypt and the pharoahs that give pointers to the times of the events.

AB is a Democratic site where ALL points of view are welcome.
Especially in R&S you may find extreme views,and those that do not totally agree with yours.
Such is the nature of a Democracy.
We like to think that all shades of opinion can be respected,but sometimes heated discussion can take place.
If you are offended by this I am sorry.
If Religion has taught you anything,it should be tolerance of others,should it not.
Then again I have yet to meet ANY Religion that teaches tolerance of anyone but it's own followers.

Birdie, I agree. Some people are incapable of looking religion squarely in the eye and seeing it for what it really is. They harbour the remnants of the fear that their initial indoctrination instilled in them, and although they don't actively follow their religion, they hedge their bets just in case it's right.

Not only a lost soul - a very confused one too it seems.
