Can anyone suggest how my sister can get her large dog to go out with her ?
She absolutely refuses to go out on the lead with anyone but my brother-in-law !
I knew a Dobermann like this, it would not go with anyone but the male owner, although it was the wife who fed her and was with her most of the time. I would suggest trying something like both of them taking her for a walk, then the brother in law 'disappearing' and leaving the dog with your sister to walk home.
do you know why? id the dog scared, aggressive, what?
The only thing with lankeela's suggestion is if dog panics when Bil disappears, could your sis manage it?
How about sis doing a spot of on lead training with the dog around the house, teaching dog to walk around the house and garden with her and obey her, then try walking dog together with sis holding the lead and "leading" the walk.
Thanks all for your replies but sorry to say it's all been tried ! The dog was a rescue dog so no telling if she had been ill treated . Ironically my sister longed for a dog and her husband took months of persuasion !!!
best thing then if you can afford it is to go to a dog behaviourist.
How does the dog behave when asked to go out with sis? does it panic? get aggressive, shake? what? Is it happy to be led around the house by her? Is there another door to go out of? what happens once dog is out the door?
