Rescued Cat

Just got the most adorable and loving cat from a rescue centre of Sunday, she is very placid and already follows us (3 young kids too) around purring and miaowing.. does this mean she will always be like this or will she change into a jekyll and hyde character once she settles?  She was in the centre for around 5 months I think and she is only 11 months old.

Unless you give her any reason to change - kids tormenting her etc., she should continue to be the loving, adorable cat she is now although she might be a little livelier once she settles. If a cat is nasty by nature they are more so when rehoused until they are settled. Sounds like you made a good choice there shaz!

I doubt if she will change.  I have had rescued cats for over 30 years now and have not been let down.  She is lucky to have found you - bless you for taking her home.  So many people just want 'pretty little kittens'.  I have three rescued cats at present and they are all adorable in different ways.

She reminds me of my puss!  I was looking for a younger cat (about a year) and when I went to the shelter there was nothing really suitable.  However, they took me out to a shed-type shelter where this lovely 4yo ginger cat came prancing over, rubbed right my legs and enjoyed having a fuss made over him.  I took him straight home and in the 2 years I've had him he hasn't changed.

I'd repeat what the others have said - don;t let the kids follow your cat around if they want to play, let the cat come to them or entice it with a toy mouse etc.  Cats like everything on their own terms and, so long as you bear this in mind, you'll have a long and happy relationship together!

I'm not a cat person... more dogs by the amount of waffle I post about them on here. But It's so nice to see any animal go to a good home.Good luck with your cat and hope you have many happy years with her.

Hi shaz-rla, I'm so pleased that you have given this puss agood home and pleased that you found a companion for you and your family.  She sounds wonderful, i'm sure she wont change, if its in her nature to be like she is now, you'r on a winner.  I agree wih the other posts, just give her a little breathing space till she settles in and i cant see you having any problems.  Hope to see a picture of her soon, what have you called her or was she named at the Rescue Centre.

Agree with everyone else, she will always be sweet and loving. If anything, cats tend to get MORE loving as they get older, especially if they are a bit aloof when they are young.

She sounds adorable, shaz-rla, I'm sure she'll have a lovely life with you.

Thanks for all the lovely advice - I have been lucky!  She is called Shandy (that was and will remain her name as it suits her!). I will post a photo very soon of her, she is a very pretty little thing!

i got  a cat from a rescue centre. she was 3 and a half when ai got her and she is like my shadow. she sits with me, sleeps in the same room as me, even goes into the loo with me and tries to get on my knee. i think they know when they have been given a good home. she will stay as she is, if not get cuter!! my cat loves me going on the computer cos she knows she can have a long long nap on my knee!!!
